About Business Activity for a University Student
I am a university student and have a college student visa. After graduation, I am planning to engage in IT-related business in Japan. Are there any special measures for business activities by a college student? What kind of students are subject to them?
College students who have already begun a business activity, if they meet some required conditions, will be approved to stay for 180 days at the longest after graduating. This will be possible by changing their visa status from “college student” to “temporary visitor” and subsequently by renewing the “temporary visitor” visa.
The students subject to these measures are: (1) Those who have graduated from a college or a postgraduate course. (2) Those who have no problems with their school record and behavior while in school, and who are recommended by a college. (3) Those whose business contents are obvious from documents that include a business plan and a company transcript. Furthermore, it can be estimated that the student will apply for a change of visa to “investor/business manager” within 180 days after graduation and can also meet the requirements for “investor/business manager” status. (4) Those who are capable of supporting their expenses while staying in Japan.
However, although a student needs to raise the money for the business and secure an office, as the details above are especially for a college student there are some required conditions regarding business launching support given by a college and eligibility to stay in Japan as well as measures when failing in launching a business.
