After divorcing from a Japanese, you will lose
your status of a Japanese spouse. Therefore, you will
not remain qualified for the status of residence as
a “Spouse of a Japanese National.”You
will be required to change your residency status if
you want to keep working in Japan.
There is a possibility for you to obtain the residency
status of “Engineer,” if you have majored
in a science course at a university and graduated
from it, if you have more than 10 years experience
in business, or if you have any skills that qualify
for special IT exemptions.
In the case that you do not satisfy any requirements
for changing your residence status to that of “Engineer,”
you may be able to change it to that of “Long-term
resident.” In your case, if your time as a resident,
details about your divorce, and your adaptability
to Japanese society are considered suitable, it may
be possible for you to obtain residency status “Long-term
resident.” As this status does not place any
limits on your activities, you will be able to continue
your work as before.
