It is possible for a person who has a job to leave
their company and devote themselves to studying the
Japanese language at school. First of all, please
follow the appropriate procedure to change your existing
visa for the one you desire. In addition, in your
case, it will be very important for you to explain
sufficiently the purpose of your study.
(1) The type of visa you can obtain differs depending
on the school you are planning to attend. Take, for
example, if you join a Japanese language school, a
Pre-College Student visa will be appropriate, but
for foreigners who join specialized schools, a College
visa may be more appropriate.
(2) Consider the timing to change your visa. Usually
schools begin in either April or October. Please obtain
a certificate of entrance from the school, and a letter
of resignation from the company. You will need to
apply for the change of visa before you enter the
school, however, if you haven’t resigned the
company at the time you apply for the visa, submit
a letter explaining the reason for your resignation,
and soon after you leave the company, submit your
letter of resignation.
(3) You will also have to decide who will be covering
your living expenses. It doesn’t matter whether
it is you or someone else. In the case it is someone
else, a document that certifies the relationship between
you and that person will be necessary.
