What procedures should I take for the wife of Japanese - Brazilian man?
I am an employee at a marine processing production company in Shimane prefecture. A fellow worker of mine is a third generation Japanese-Brazilian man (Nikkei-sansei). He consulted me about how he could bring his wife to Japan so they could live together.

First of all, he must prepare the necessary documents and apply for a Certificate of Eligibility to stay in Japan at the Matsue branch of the Hiroshima Immigration Office. If the application is approved the Certificate will be sent to him. Then he will forward it to his wife in Brazil. She then applies for her visa at a Japanese embassy or other official organization in Brazil and gets it stamped in her passport. When she enters Japan, she will get a “permanent resident” visa at the airport immigration office and enter the country. In the case of foreign documents, translation is required.

Documents to be obtained from his wife in Brazil:
1. 2 passport-size photos of his wife?s face (4 cm H x 3 cm W).
2. His wife’s birth certificate, a marriage certificate, and copy of her passport.

Documents her husband must prepare:
1. Certificate of Eligibility for Japan stay application form.
2. A reply envelope (430 yen in stamps are required).
3. Family line chart (depending on the case, sometimes a copy of his family register, a copy of his removal from the register, a birth certificate, a marriage certificate and so on are required.)
4. A Certificate of Identity
5. An Employment Certificate and a Certificate of Tax Deducted.
6. A description certificate of his Alien Registration card.
