What is the Immigration office procedure to change a job?
I am Indian. After graduating from Delhi university in India, I worked at a computer related company for two years in Mumbai (Bombay), India. Then I came to Japan as an IT engineer three years ago. The company treated me well, but due to complicated relationships in the company, I left and joined my current company. My visa allows
me to stay for two more years. Do I have to renew my visa at the Immigration office because I changed company?

Supposedly you have an “Engineer” visa. Since I do not know your new job assignment, I will explain two cases.

1. If your present job is IT engineering as it was before, you will still have two years left on your visa, so you can apply for a work qualification certificate. When you extend your stay two years later, it is possible to renew your visa by presenting this certificate. The following documents are required when applying for the certificate.

(1) Application form for a work qualification certificate. (2) A tax certificate and a resignation letter. (3) Documents explaining the profile of the new company: A copy of your company register, a profit and loss statement, and brochures. (4) A copy of your employment contract that specifies your role, duration, position and income. (5) A photo of your face (H30mm x W25mm) (6) A 680 yen revenue stamp.

2. In case your job at the new company is not IT engineering, but something in another field such as interpreting, you must apply for a change of visa status. You can begin to work after getting it approved.
