What is the procedure to update a Spousal Visa?
Two years ago, I married a Brazilian. At the time that we were married, I was working for a company, but as of June of this year, I resigned from that same company. When my wife renews her visa, although it is necessary to present my certificate of employment, since I'll be resigning from my company, I will not be able to present it. With these circumstances, what kind of procedures should we follow to update her visa?

The visa type of a foreigner who marries a Japanese citizen is called "Spouse of Japanese Citizen." The following documents are necessary for this foreign spouse to update his or her visa:
1) Period of Residence Update Permission Form (parts 1 & 2)
2) A copy of the family register that proves the two people are married
3) The Japanese spouse's resident's card
4) Proof of sponsorship (the Japanese spouse must be the guarantor of the non-Japanese spouse)
5) Documents which describe your living conditions
Normally, you would present your certificates of employment and income and withholding tax. However, because you resigned from the company you worked for up until now, you cannot receive a certificate of employment. If possible, you should ask the company that you resigned from for a certificate of resignation. In addition, you should submit a "Statement of Reasons" to the Immigration Bureau. The contents of your statement of reasons should include an explanation. First off, it should be addressed to the head of the Immigration Bureau office that you are submitting it to. It should be titled "Statement of Reasons." The purpose of this statement is to describe that while you resigned from your job and cannot present a certificate of employment you are presently searching for another job. In addition, since it seems as though you are now living on your savings, you should also present a certificate of the balance of your current savings. Finally, include your certificate of income and withholding tax from last year and this year up until June.
