In the Case of a Rejected Visa Renewal Due to a Big Change in Employment Activity

Question
Initially I had been working as a company translator and interpreter, but I then later changed my position to one in management and administration. As my visa renewal date approached for the first time since I changed jobs, I prepared all the necessary documents and applied for an extension. However, I was refused and forced to return to my country. Why did this happen to me?

Answer
In your case, at the time of your extension request, your initial residence status had greatly changed. Different working visas have different rules to follow and allow for different types of work.

When a particular visa holder’s activity greatly changes, the Immigration office may deem the new activity to be beyond the issued visa’s scope of extending an allowable term of residency. In your case, it seems that you are required to reapply for the appropriate visa status (Application for Certificate of Status of Residence), but only upon return to your country of origin.

If, after obtaining a particular residential status, there is any possibility that the nature of your employment may change, it is recommended that you consult with either the Immigration office directly, or with an expert or lawyer beforehand, for help with your application.
