How to Obtain a Dependent Visa (No.2 - Remarks on Letter of Reasons)

Question
I’m presently in Japan on a Skilled Labor Visa. I want to bring my wife over from my home country so we can live here together. When applying for her visa I would like to submit a letter indicating both the necessity for her to be here, as well as the improvement to both our qualities of life if we could be together again. Please advise me on what to do.

Answer
In this case, you need to apply for her “Dependent Visa.” During the application process, it may beneficial if you submit any documents that you believe necessary, including those mentioned in (October issue, No. 1).

So, it is a good idea to explain why it is necessary for you and your wife to be together in the same place. This kind of document is called “a letter of explanation.”

The letter should describe your present status and future prospects, including your wife’s present lifestyle, and how you will live here together after she arrives in Japan. Generally, this kind information greatly helps Immigration assess your individual case and make a more informed decision.
