How to Obtain a Dependent Visa (No. 1 - Basic Documents Required)
![]()
I’m now staying in Japan on a Skilled Labor Visa. I want to bring my wife over from my home country so we can live in Japan together. Please advise me about the necessary documents.

There is a possibility for those who stay in Japan with a regular status of residence to bring over family members, including a spouse and children, to live in Japan together. In this case a “Dependent” visa is required.
The following are the basic documents required for this kind of visa application.
1. Application for recognition of a status of residence (available at the Immigration Office)
2. A photo (4cm long and 3cm wide)
3. A return envelope with a stamp
4. A document that certifies your marriage (e.g. a copy of your family register and your marriage certificate)
5. A copy of your foreign registration card or your passport
6. A document that certifies your work and income (e.g. a certification of employment from your company or a certificate of taxation from a local office)
7. Other documents according to the situation
If you cannot prove that you have the means to support your dependant (family member), there will be no possibility for them to be granted a visa. You may also be required to submit additional documentation by an immigration office.
