How can a Non-Japanese Bring his Family to Japan for Their Summer Vacation?
![]()
I have a Permanent Resident Visa for Japan. I want to bring my family here during my children’s summer vacation so that we can create wonderful memories together. In this case, what procedures do I have to follow?

In this case, you are referred to as “an invitor or guarantor,” and the people who will visit Japan as “visa applicants.” It is usually the Japanese Embassy in the area where the applicants live that handles this procedure, rather than the Japanese Immigration office.
First of all, you (the invitor/guarantor) need to prepare documents in Japan that include a brief on the reason for the invitation, one that certifies your relation to your visitors, and some reference identification. Then, you have to send it all to the visa applicant(s). Concurrently, they should prepare the necessary documentation in their country. With both sets of documents, the visa applicant(s) should go to their local Japanese Embassy to apply.
Depending on the documentation, the visa applicant(s) may receive notification approximately one week after the application’s submission.
