HAKKEIJIMA SEA PARADISE
Many Japanese zoos and aquariums are transforming
their facilities from mere observatories of caged
animals to facilities that allow observation of the
peculiarities of these creatures in a more hands-on
and enjoyable way.
Yokohama Hakkeijima SEA PARADISE, just over one hour
away from Tokyo, is an amusement island which is 18
times as large as Tokyo Dome. There are many enjoyable
spots including one of JapanÕs largest aquariums
primarily designed to provide an opportunity for human
beings and living animals to communicate and interact,
an amusement park with 14 different vehicles, various
shops and restaurants, a hotel and parks. No admission
fee is needed to enter the island. You can freely
walk around the parks and browse through the shops,
but an admission fee is needed to use the facilities.
At the Dolphin Fantasy, a new aquarium opened in July
2004, you can see dolphins swimming actively in the
tunnel tank where the sunshine comes in. Definitely
a sea paradise for a day full of enjoyment.

Train: Hakkeijima station, Seaside line
Car: To Hakkeijima get off at Namiki IC of Yokohama-Yokosuka
Doro or via 357 from Koura of Shuto Kosoku wangan-sen.
