Open-Air Folk House Museum
NIHON MINKA-EN
The Japan open-air folk House Museum was opened in
1967 in order to preserve for ever those houses which
are now rapidly disappearing. At the museum, you can
see 25 houses including a water mill, a boatman's
house, a high warehouse and a stage for Kabuki plays,
as well as characteristic private houses of Eastern
Japan. Eighteen of the museum's houses are recognized
as important cultural property by the nation and various
prefectures. In the exhibition room you can also learn
more about these houses.

*The exhibition "Living
in the Snow" - the northern regions seen in Kawasaki
