| GHIBLI
MUSEUM, MITAKA
What is that colorful building over there in the
park? It could well be the ever-popular Ghibli animation
museum designed by Japanese animation wizard MIYAZAKI
Hayao.
The director has created many sensational animation
movies such as gMy Neighbor Totoro,h gPrincess
Mononokeh and gSpirited Awayh and
has now become the most influential Japanese movie
director on the world stage as KUROSAWA Akira used
to be.
Since it opened in October, 2001, the Ghibli museum
has always been crowded. This museum is quite different
from ordinary ones. It includes an exhibition room
where actual models and exhibits of the animation
process are displayed, a mini-theater where you can
enjoy watching original Ghibli animations (one screening
per person) and the gCat bush room which
is very popular among elementary school pupils. In
the fresco paintings that adorn the hall and stained
glass window, Ghibli characters can be seen. You will
also be able to feel Miyazakifs sense of fun
in many other places around the museum. Entrance is
strictly by advance reservation.
