Is Japan’s Education System Reliable?

Text: Candy (Macau)

I recently received an invitation to a students Handwriting Exhibition from the primary school my seven-year-old daughter attends. When I arrived at the school I saw only a few parents and not so many exhibited works. When I heard the reason, I was surprised. The teacher didn’t show the students’ products if their handwriting was not beautiful enough! I think if teachers do this, students who cannot write beautiful letters will lose confidence, then will not try to write nicely again. And the more serious concern is that this matter may lead students to develop inferiority complexes.

I don’t know whether all the classes or only my daughter’s class does it this way. But from this event, I just hope that the school teachers can consider the feelings of the weak students — the friends’ mothers come to school and watch their childrens’ skills, but my mother doesn’t come because my work is not good enough to be shown to others. I don’t understand why the educators don’t care about the sad feelings of these students?

Why don’t they try to encourage and teach the weak students to write more beautifully and show all the works to everyone? On the other hand, I think whether the handwriting is beautiful or not just depends on the teachers subjective opinion. Does Japan only show the good things to others? Really, I think Japan’s education system is too easy compared with my country. If children’s psychology is also neglected, is Japan’s education system reliable?

Is it OK that parents trust their children’s most important period of education to schools? I think the parents must make more effort to educate their own children by themselves!
