重要文化財 十二神将立像 丑神、寅神、卯神、酉神 鎌倉時代・13世紀 山形・本山慈恩寺蔵

A special exhibition, “Masterpieces of Buddhist Sculpture from Northern Japan,” is being held until April 5 at the Tokyo National Museum (Honkan) in Ueno, Tokyo. The exhibition brings together Buddhist statues representative of the six prefectures of the Tohoku region, that is, Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata and Fukushima. It features well-known Tohoku statues including, three Mokuzo Yakushi Nyorai Zazo (wooden seated statues of the healing Buddha, Yakushi Nyorai) and standing Junishinsho (Twelve Heavenly Generals – four of which will be on display). Part of the profits will go to restoring cultural assets damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
